About Johnson Matthey

Founded in 1817, the group's principal activities today are the manufacture of catalysts for passenger vehicles, catalysts for heavy duty diesel trucks, catalysts for power plants, pollution control systems, catalysts and components for fuel cells, catalysts and technologies for chemical processes, fine chemicals, active pharmaceutical ingredients and the production, processing and the sale of precious metals.

The Johnson Matthey group, headquartered in London, has some 9,700 employees in more than 30 nations.

Johnson Matthey has more than 30 years experience in developing and manufacturing honeycomb and plate catalysts.

Johnson Matthey is one of the few companies that manufactures both plate and honeycomb SCR catalysts. Johnson Matthey is therefore able to offer tailor-made solutions for the special applications that customers need.

Johnson Matthey’s hundreds of references represent more than 120.000 m³ of catalysts, supplied to Europe, America and Asia including China.

Power Plant Industries’ (PPI’s) EU manufacturing location is Redwitz, Germany. Originally a production site of Siemens, the ceramics division was divested in 2002 and operated as Argillon, a world leader in the manufacture of technical ceramics.
At the beginning of 2008 Johnson Matthey purchased the Argillon Group, integrating the technical ceramics group into the sector Emission Control Technologies (ECT). In November 2008, the Redwitz manufacturing site’s name was changed to Johnson Matthey Catalysts (Germany) GmbH (JMCG).

Redwitz is situated two hours north of Munich and employs around 570 people. In Redwitz, development, production, sales and service of technical ceramics are all concentrated in one place. In addition, there are sales and engineering locations in Alpharetta, Georgia (USA), in Sulzbach, Taunus (Germany) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) as well as sales and manufacturing locations in China: Shanghai and Peking.
